GrubHub Redesigns its Mobile apps with an Updated iPhone and new Android app

Chicago, Ill. (Oct. 7 2010) — GrubHub, an industry leader in the online restaurant delivery space, announces updates to their iPhone app and the release of a new Android app. Through GrubHub’s mobile app, users can order food on the go and read reviews from more than 4,000 restaurants in 13 cities.

“Whether you’re ordering lunch, dinner or even dessert, you have an abundance of options,” said Mike Evans, GrubHub co-founder and COO.  “The new mobile apps make ordering food from anywhere that much easier.”

Users can search their current location or enter an address, and GrubHub will display every restaurant that will deliver to that location. Users can order food directly from the app or call the restaurant directly.

With the updated iPhone app, GrubHub users can now log into their existing accounts or create a new account from their mobile device and take advantage of new, more personalized functionality which includes:

  • Using your phone’s GPS to find out which restaurants deliver to you.
  • Viewing menus, reviews and ratings before placing your order.
  • Searching for restaurants that deliver in 13 major cities: New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Oakland, Boston, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Philadelphia, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Denver and Boulder.
  • Searching for specific items, restaurants and cuisines from the home screen.
  • Saving multiple addresses so you can order from home, office, local bar or university dorm.
  • Viewing past orders and reordering with one tap.
  • Saving credit card information so you can leave your wallet at home.

GrubHub has also added new functionality for Android and other smartphone users. This week the company released a public beta Android app that is the first app to offer mobile food ordering from local independent restaurants. This app allows Android users to search by their current location, find a specific food item or restaurant name, read reviews and order online.

And for people who don’t want to install an app on their phone, GrubHub released significant improvements to their mobile website. GrubHub’s mobile website uses the latest features of HTML 5, including geo location and Client-Side storage, which will make reordering from GrubHub on a mobile phone even easier

The iPhone app can be downloaded from the iTunes App Store® and GrubHub for Android is available at the Android Market on your phone. Both mobile apps are free to download.

GrubHub first launched its iPhone app in February 2009 and over the past 6 months the company has seen a 300% increase in its install base.

“Mobile orders comprised of 1 percent of our total revenue last year,” said Evans. “With the growing popularity of our mobile apps, we project mobile orders will comprise 10 percent of our sales by the end of 2010, roughly $7 million.”
